There are a number of car hire companies in South Africa with an international presence.  Our preferred supplier Avis, has quality vehicles and their fleet of cars is regularly reviewed.

  • 24-8 Cybertravel will reserve the car on your behalf but the contract is between you and the car hire company.
  • The rates quoted are subject to change.
  • The rates include:
    • Unlimited kilometres
    • Airport surcharge
    • Personal accident insurance
    • Maximum collision damage waiver (CDW)
    • Maximum theft loss waiver (TLW)
    • Tourism levy
    • Value Added Tax (14%)
  • The rates exclude:
    • Refuelling
    • Fuel deposit
    • Contract fee
    • Delivery and collection fees
    • Young driver surcharge
    • Additional driver
    • One way drop off fees
    • Fine handling fees
  • Driving the hired car into neighbouring countries requires a letter of authorisation from the car hire company. If permission is granted, additional charges may be levied.

Collecting the car

  • Present the car hire company with your drivers licence, booking reference or voucher and valid credit card.
  • A reserve, to cover costs, is usually placed on the credit card with the actual costs debited on return of the car.
  • The contract with the car hire company covers issues such as: additional drivers, type of insurance required, duration of car hire and drop off location. It is advisable to take full vehicle insurance including theft, collision damage and waiver of excess. In signing the contract you accept the car hire company’s terms and conditions. Read them!
  • Ask for a list of contact numbers in case of an accident, breakdown, theft of vehicle or any other vehicle related problems.
  • Enquire about the procedure to follow with regards to an accident, theft or breakdown of the vehicle.
  • Check the vehicle thoroughly for damage to the bodywork, presence of emergency tools, spare wheel, correct functioning of engine, gears, brakes and lights. Any acceptable deficiencies should be reported to the car hire company for recording on the contract before departure. If the deficiencies are unacceptable/dangerous, the vehicle should be immediately changed out.

Whilst the vehicle is in your possession

  • Extensions to the car hire period are to be negotiated with the car hire company. Remember the rates are calculated per 24-hour period and not a calendar day.

Returning the car

  • Refuel as near to the return point as possible to avoid a large refuelling surcharge.
  • Other considerations are to:
    • Record the distance travelled
    • Have the car hire company inspect and acknowledge the condition of the car
    • Check you have removed all your possessions from the car
    • Hand in the keys and finalise the account
